Jools Roome
Director of Governance and Compliance
I’m Jools Roome, as well as my role working for HED, I am the Director of Operations for Alexin Healthcare CIC; the GP Federation covering Southern Derbyshire, East Staffordshire and South East Staffordshire.
I have worked in Primary Care for 19 years now, originally on the commissioning side within PCTs in and around the Derby area, moving across to the provider side with Alexin in 2013.
I am passionate about primary care and ensuring the primary care workforce of today and tomorrow are trained, having the necessary skills, NHS values and behaviours to ensure continued quality delivery of healthcare and health improvements to patients and the public.
Outside of work, I am happily married and have a hectic family life mainly playing taxi driver to our three young (ish) children taking them to their various sporting hobbies and commitments! I am the secretary for the football club our boys play for, Mickleover Country Park FC and a keen netball player, playing for 3 teams each week, often to be found either with a child or my work mobile on the side lines!

I have been a GP partner at Darley Dale since 1998. My interests at work include over 18 years as a GP Trainer and over 15 years as a GP Appraiser. I see Training Hubs having an increasingly important role in helping to sustain, train and develop our Primary Care Teams to keep up with the rapid pace of change in the NHS.
Away from work gardening and walks in the Peak District help to keep me sane. For excitement I adore a ski trip, but I am not sure how much longer I will be able to keep up with my son.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1996 and spent 8 years working on CCU. As a student nurse I had the opportunity to be on a placement within General Practice so was aware of the diverse roles and career progression available. Since 2004 I have been working as a GPN in Derbyshire and currently work as Nurse Manager at Hannage Brook Medical Centre
I am passionate about planning and developing our future workforce of General Practice clinicians. I have previously been involved in training nurses new to General Practice and have also, along with a local university developed a Return to nursing student who went on to gain employment as a GPN.
I feel it is fundamental to build general nurse practice placements for nursing students across Derbyshire. Our remit is to work closely with Health Education Institutions to expand and deliver high quality placements, creative positive learning environments for all placements with the goal creating a workforce of GPN’s in primary care.
Health Education Derbyshire want to ensure that NHS workforces are able to easily access funded and accredited, quality assured courses.
My areas or clinical expertise are Diabetes and work as an Independent Prescriber.
Away from work I enjoy long walks in the countryside, going to the theatre, (when open again), cooking and meeting friends.
I am married with 2 daughters who are both at Sheffield University studying English.
